I like how this thread changed from ratings to politics. My .o2 on the subject at hand would be to change ratings of guys that are obvious fixers (+/-5), but if it's a change that won't really affect much, wait until next year, because of the trades that already went down. Dunno if this has been said, it's late, and I don't wanna have to go through all the posts.

as for ratings changes NO RATINGS CHANGES until next season.
if you start right now there are gonna be problems, if you do it after all-star break MORE PROBLEMS, best idea just do it next season IMMIDIATELY after I kick LAL's ass in the finals.

Jennings putting up 18 points, 5 assists (with a very impressive 2.78 A/TO ratio), 1.8 steals, 46% from the field, and 87% from the stripe through 5 games. Rating of 73 currently, but I'm guessing he finishes no worse than 15 pts/5 asts and should be around a Derrick Rose rating at the start of next year (with a smaller bump precursing this at the ASB).
Can you say RotY?
- J.R. Smith and his 76 rating dropping 21 points a game. - Bogut at 77 is averaging about 15 points and 12 boards.

Could be, but I know for a fact at one point he said it was 60/40...he could've changed it though.
Obviously I'd like the game to have some impact on it because a lot of young guys getting PT, but I think a combo of what they are doing in RL and in Sim would be the best because even though it is sim and we want as much realism as possible, the idea of realism got thrown out the window when half the teams' rosters are nothing resembling that of the real life counterpart (like Nuggets, Jazz, Cavs, etc.).
I just think it'd be dumb if a young guy in real life is playing extremely well, but doesn't play in the game at all because his team has veteran players rated 80 or above at every starting position but he goes up in rating anyways despite not ever seeing the court in sim. Vice versa, I think it'd be completely foolish if a player gets no action in real life but plays an integral part of a team in the sim but doesn't go up at all, or possibly even regresses.

What about LeBron? He sucks in sims. Anyways, my opinion on this is that it be based 100% off of real life. Sims aren't totally accurate, and all other leagues I know of base it off real life. Also, let's say we up JR Smith. If he's averaging 21 points a game at 76 rating, if we up him, we could get totally crazy numbers, like NBA Live 08 gives. We don't want crazy stats. We want realistic ones, which is why ratings are based of real life performance.

So what do you suggest about real life guys who play very well but don't even play in sim because they are behind other players on the depth chart? They are going to go up in sim even though they play about 12 minutes a game in sim? That is fucking retarded. Sim needs to be taken into account to some degree. It's ridiculous if it has no bearing at all. I don't think Smith putting up 21 at 76 means he would be put like 30 at a rating of 80-82 or whatever, because they still only play 48 minute games and have to play with 4 other people on the court. I think it would probably make him more efficient and all around better, but I don't know why it necessarily means he is scoring is going to go up...that has more to do with who he is surrounded by IMO.

so this is basically an argument to make guys on shitty teams with low ratings who have to score alot, get increased, where teams with good guys at all positions dont move up because the scoring is more balanced?
that also makes no sense. if lebron is surrounded by all good guys and puts up lower numbers than jr smith, who has to score alot for the team to be competitive at all, you cant punish lebron for being on a better team and having to share shots..... this is basically an argument to increase the ratings of players on bad teams.... makes no sense.

I do believe that it looks like this..
This league will be basing it off of real life for about the first season or two than it's time to determine who we believe will be developing by allowing them situaations in games. Jennings say in a year or two will be going up becuase he's been starting and playing well. We can't base this entirely off real life as I know for a fact we're going to get ahead.

I know you guys want it to be realistic as possible but the bottom line is this is video game and with the completely UNrealistic amount of trades there are vast discrepencies between real life minutes and sim minutes for a multiple number of players. This alone is reason enough to incorporate sim into the equation when figuring out ratings progression.
|
|
|
Post by Charlotte Bobcats on Aug 4, 2009 8:51:31 GMT -5
yes maybe a little bit of incorporation, but then again you would be rewarding teams with less talent as 1 or 2 players will do the bulk of the scoring. If you have a team that scores even amounts of points through the whole starting lineup, but still wins games- these teams should not be penalized because their guys dont live up to expectation in the sim.

I think it should be based 100% real life, just becausse random players just do good in sims no matter their rating, its there size and skills. If you havn't notice if you play any NBA game Tj gets to around 90 rating in a season or two just because his size and skills are BALANCED. And lebron even if hes on a shit team won't do good in sims. happened to me. Maybe if you raise a players rating they won't do so well. in RR1 i hate cp3 93 over i think and he avg under ten points, 6 assist and dont remember how many steals. but in this hes like 89 and he gets 20,10, about 2.5 steals a game. I think everyone needs to stop basing their trades with overall rating and with players stats. Kobe is 98 overall and he doesnt put up numbers like J,R smith, does that mean Kobe should drop to like 80 overall? I don't think so.

Guys, the purpose of a Sim league is to SIMulate REAL LIFE. Basing the ratings on anything other than REAL LIFE defeats the purpose and goes against the nature of a SIMULATION League.
There should be no argument here on what we base ratings on.

Guys, the purpose of a Sim league is to SIMulate REAL LIFE. Basing the ratings on anything other than REAL LIFE defeats the purpose and goes against the nature of a SIMULATION League. There should be no argument here on what we base ratings on. Yeah bro cause the rosters in shit in this league mirror real life perfectly!! Which brings me back to the point that because of the completely UNrealistic amount of trades, there are vast differences in sim minutes and RL minutes, as well as importance to their team, for so many players. Just as much as you guys want to say it is a way for players on bad teams to get a ratings boost, it is a way to insure that your stacked All-Star won't go down because inevitably someone is not going to get the share they did when they were "the man" on a different team in real life. Niggas gotta "get theirs", thats why you see some guys stay on shit teams and score and others not go to already good teams because they won't be such a prominent player. JR Smith put up 15 for the Nuggets, who had Billups and Carmelo. I don't think it is unrealistic to believe he might up that by 5 points in becoming the main scoring threat for a Michael Redd-less Bucks team. Speaking of Redd, isn't he simply the same as Smith in that he HAS to score because are bad and need someone to? If that is the case, then why is he an 84? Shouldn't he be a 75 because he is only scoring of necessity? You guys make the weakest arguments ever and I'm done with thread. Not posting in it again or even looking through it to see what new idiotic things you dumbasses say. Peace faggots.

YOU ARE A MENTALLY RETARDED DUMBASS. this is called simulation league for a reason, IT SIMULATES WHAT YOU DO IN REAL LIFE. how do you think NBA LIVE, MADDEN, NHL 2K, FIFA, get their ratings it's through USING REAL LIFE STATISTICS TO CREATE THE OVERALL RATING THE PLAYER THEY THINK STATISTICALLY THEY DESERVE. same arguement here. why the **** should we raise JR Smith's rating or lower Lebron James's rating just because one is doing better in sim league and other is sucking, why not lower JR SMITH'S then, I mean he plays on a CRAPPY TEAM so he should get rewarded, what about LBJ he puts up good stats and gives his team wins so we should lower his rating and instead not make it higher. it's not about THEY SCORE BECUASE THAT'S ALL THEY HAVE, or he is the ONLY DOMINANT PLAYER ON TEAM. SIM LEAGUES are based primarily on STATS more then value to their team.

Seriously Milwaukee...you are not thinking this through clearly. Atlanta basically said everything, plus I already said everything I wanted to say as well. It is a league based on REAL LIFE. On the real life PLAYERS more than anything.
Yes there are more trades that go on in Sim leagues...it would be boring as hell w/o trades and such.
As a staff member who has a prominent voice in Player Ratings, I can assure you that I personally look at things like stats per minute and take a look at the situations on the players' real life team. I've campaigned for players to get boosts when their pure stats (w/o looking at mpg) say they should not go up...because I take into account what kind of playing time and system and other things that affect them.
We are SIMulating how well players are performing IRL.
Also there is the factor to consider that in real life, if the player can not crack his own teams' rotation to up his stats, then maybe he doesn't deserve to get much of a boost in our game either.
This is a tried, tested, and true system that works.
No need to start the name calling, just shows off your immaturity.
